The
Minnesota Vikings won't easily replace the loss of injured wide receiver
Sidney Rice.
But they're trying.
The
Miami Dolphins sent
Greg Camarillo to the Vikings in exchange for cornerback Benny Sapp. Minnesota got a fourth-year pro and popular wideout who caught 113 passes for 1,325 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons with the
Dolphins.
Camarillo, 28, was best remembered in South Florida for the 64-yard touchdown reception from Cleo Lemon in a Week 15 overtime road victory over the
Baltimore Ravens that was Miami's lone win of the '07 season. The play was just the fourth catch of Camarillo's career. He went four years during his college career at Stanford without scoring a TD.
"Mixed emotions," Camarillo told
The Miami Herald via text message. "Great opportunity, but this is home. These teammates are my brothers."
Now
Brett Favre is his brother.
So is Javon Walker, another veteran receiver -- albeit, reclamation project -- the Vikings
picked up this week in hopes of filling the void made by Rice, who underwent hip surgery Tuesday. Rice was Minnesota's best receiver and Favre's top target during the quarterback's remarkable renaissance during the '09 season, catching 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns.
